TIPS FOR CFAD FRESHIES!

1. Pumasok ka sa 1st day! So you’d get to meet your blockmates. That’s what my block did 2 years ago. HI AD3!!
2. Pero walang class pag 1st day. Kasi may something. Basta sabi ng isang prof namin yun samin dati.
3. If wala ka pang uniform, allowed ka pa mag-civillian sa first week ng classes. Or until magka-uniform ka na. Pero wag lang oa sa tagal
4. Dont forget le registration form.
5. Dont miss the first meetings with your professors tho. That’s when they give you the requirements. Madaming binibili pag first year. Lalo na pag mechanical drawing tapos natapat ka pa kay Sir Araw? Nako, mapapagastos ka.
6. Take note of the rules your professors will give on your first meeting. Say yung ilang number of absences, lates ang allowed sa subject nya. Also the grading system. Take note of that okay? Para di ka maccaught off guard pag patapos na sem tas bglang bagsak ka na pala. Para may basis ka.
7. Mag-ingat sa absences at lates. Wag kang magpapa-FA lalo na sa major subjects. Pagsisisihan mo.
8. Make a good impression sa profs. Makinig. Wag ka magmarunong. Trust me, kahit gano ka kagaling, sa prof padin nakasalalay grade mo.
9. Wag ka mamahalan sa Prang na watercolor. Mahaba haba ang pagsasamahan nyo nyan kaya 300php yan.
10. Invest on paintbrushes. Siguraduhin mong tatagal para di sayang at bili ka ng bili.
11. Ingatan mo drawing pencils at kneaded eraser mo! Best to have a pencil case. Kahit nasa 25php+ lang yan, mahal yan kung madaming beses ka mawawalan. Halos sa lahat ng major subjects mo magagamit mo yan.
12. If gusto mo magtipid sa materials, I suggest you canvass muna sa Joyce’s, Jomar’s or Joli’s kung san pinakamura yung kelangan mo bilhin. Those three supplies stores are located along p.noval.
13. I personally don’t like Joli’s tho. Sila yung nagiikot sa first week of classes sa mga classroom to endorse. Yung lalaki na naka-salamin? Nako masungit yun. Matagal ang service sa Joli’s at masusungit mga tindera. Oh and I strongly suggest wag kayo bibili ng PLASTER OF PARIS sa Joli’s. sayang pera nyo sayang plate nyo. Luma na kasi and bulok. Sa joyce’s or jomar’s nalang. WARNING : WAG KAYO MAGPAPAPRINT SA JOLI’S, MAVVIRUS-AN ANG USBs, MEMORY CARDS, HDS, ETC NYO. GOODBYE FILES.
14. Kung may wood carving kayo, wag kayo bbili sa tatlong stores na sinabi ko ng carving tools kung ang wood nyo na gagamitin ay isang block ng wood. (Usually si Ma’m Ronidel ang nagpapa-woodcarving, Materials, 2nd sem) The carving tools they sell there are small and are not that kind of wood. I suggest sa hardware na kayo bumili, mas matibay and mas effective.
15. Wag kang pumetiks sa plates. Give your best simula sa pinakaunang plate hanggang sa pinaka-last. Mas ok na yung kampante ka kesa sa delikado kang bumagsak. Tapos kakailanganin mo pang humingi ng special project. Hahabulin mo pa yung prof. Hassle yun. Trust me, I’ve been there. Mas okay na yung alam mong stable ka na sa end ng sem. I’m an irregular student, trust me, I know what you shouldn’t do anymore.
16. Wag din papabayaan ang minors. Part padin sila ng GWA mo. If gusto mo mag-DL, i-maintain mo grades mo sa lahat pati sa minors.
17. Make sure wala kang delikado na major subject. Kasi yang mga yan, mga pre-requisites yan. If may bagsak ka na major subject, sorry pero maddelay ka na ng graduate. So I repeat, wag kang petiks sa plates.
18. Masarap yung red velvet cupcake sa Timbale. Tsaka yung macaroni. Sorry yun lang binibili ko dun eh. Timbale is the caf/canteen sa tabi ng Beato. Food there is a bit pricey. If G ka magtipid, i suggest you explore P.noval. Sobrang daming kainan dun i don’t even know where to begin.
19. If gusto mo ng Mcdo or Kfc, wag ka na dumayo sa Carpark. Masyadong malayo at hassle. Meron sa p.campa nun ilang tawid lang from p.noval.
20. Techniques classes are usually held outdoors. If maarte ka, magsunblock ka, magdala ka ng payong, magshades ka. Magdala ka nadin ng pwede mong maupuan sa floor/grass kung ayaw mo madumihan pants mo.
Kung may ipapa-sketch/paint sainyo sa paligid ng UST, take a picture of it na. Para may reference ka na agad.

21. Materials class. Bring extra clothes lalo na pants kung ayaw mo umuwi ng muka kang kargador na galing sa construction site. Namumuti yan dahil sa plaster. Wag ka nadin mag-leather shoes pag yan subject niyo. Sayang yan. MAT is a very messy subject.
22. Wag ka magulat na 5hours ung major subjects. You only have that once a week. So sakto lang. May ibang prof na hindi sinasagad ang 5 hours. Usually nagpapadismiss na yan an hour or 30minutes before. 23. Pag ang prof nyo wala pa after an hour, assign someone na to get an attendance sheet sa office. Para makaalis na kayo. Boring magantay.
24. Since ang major subjects once a week lang, normally ang plates nyo ibbigay this week, next week ipapasa. Depende sa prof. Pero kahit ganon, wag mo ipagpapaliban. Mahirap mag-cram. Lalo na pag patong patong na plates mo di mo na alam alin uunahin? Whew.
25. Prelims and finals week are the sleepless weeks. Literal. May ibang mga prof na nagbibigay na ng prelim/final plate earlier so i suggest na gawin mo na habang maaga pa. Masaya siguro ung feeling na sila lahat walang tulog tas ikaw wala ka nang gagawin. ( I said siguro kasi di ko pa nararanasan mauna matapos sa plates HAHAHA)
26. If may junk art plate kayo, madaming trash na bote sa 1st floor sa likod ng bldg natin. Paalam kayo kela Ate, they’ll be more than willing to give you shitloads of plastic bottles.
27. Dont be shocked if a prof will give you 5 plates isang bagsakan tas pasahan siguro next week agad or next next week. Ganyan sa CFAD. Pinasok mo to, panindigan mo. Hello sleepless nights!
28. I strongly suggest mag-locker kayo, hassle madami bitbit pauwi! Tsaka pag umuulan, sayang kung mababasa plates nyo. Iwan nyo nalang muna sa locker.
29. Bili kayo nung tube na lagayan ng rolls ng paper. Malaking tulong yun!

30.  Do not throw your past plates pag di pa tapos ang sem. Majority of professors would ask you to compile them sa end ng semester. May grade yun. May isa akong prof dati, finals na namin sakanya yung portfolio ng plates namin. Para nadin pala may proof ka na kapag binagsak ka niya, pwede ka magpa-recompute ng grades. Complete yang plates mo eh.

31. TAKE NOTE OF DEADLINES.

32. If hindi niyo na talaga kaya yung plates niyo, ask help from higher years. (IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN ;) )

FOR CFAD UNIFROMS, usually may nagbebenta nyan sa lobby ng Beato sa first day. Di lang ako sure sa schedule.

CFAD is my home. It will be your home too, in less than a month. You’ll meet lots of interesting, eccentric, weird, inspiring and out of this world people in here. If you got in, then congratulations, you have what it takes to be a Thomasian Artist. Live up to your title. Goodluck and God bless! All i’ve written here are based on my own personal experiences when I was in 1st year. Most of the tips here are for Adver majors. :) But I hope it can help Interior Design, Industrial Design and Painting majors as well :)
